Extreme Stiletto Design

Rules

  1. Competitors will have 2 hours (unless otherwise noted – check daily schedule for time) to complete one hand of stiletto-style nail enhancements and colored acrylic or gel products in original and artistic ways. Tips and adhesive are NOT allowed.  
  2. The nails must be a minimum of 2” in length of nail. This measurement is from the lowest point of the cuticle to the end of the free edge.  Any nails shorter will receive a 10 point deduction of overall score.
  3. Cover pink may be used.
  4. No acrylic paint, gel paint, gel polish or nail polish of any sort may be used.  Hand painting is not allowed on top of the nail to enhance the design.  If you can build a nail with the product you may use it for creating the design.  Absolutely NO Stamping!
  5. Glitter powder of any type, shape or color may be used (any size) but must not be included in more than 10% of the design. Crystal dust (pixie type) like products are allowed.
  6. The design must not cover more than 10 % of the nail bed.  This is to allow the nail bed to show through.
  7. NO Theme – Just follow the rules!
  8. Embellishments may be used. The surface of the nail enhancements must be flush — NO raised surfaces
  9. C curves range between 40% and 50%. The thinness of a salon style nail, approximately .03 to .05 inches, is ideal.  Credit card thickness for example.
  10. Electric files may be used.  All files and buffers must be clean and unused.
  11. Moisturizing products such as oil and soap may be used.
  12. All nail enhancements must be finished to a high shine by buffing, applying top coat or using a UV gel sealant. No other polish, including glitter polish, is allowed.
  13. Extreme Stiletto with Design Competition Nails will be judged in the following categories: lateral structure & shape, finish work, theme, design, surface structure & “C” curves, product control & cuticle area, complexity of design, detail, length, color, balance of design & overall impression.
  14. Any Extreme Stiletto with Design Competition Nails that win, or has already won, first place at a NAILPRO competition cannot be reused by the winner or copied by other competitors in subsequent NAILPRO competitions. The NAILPRO competition staff reserves the right to disqualify any design it considers too similar to a winning design. Any discussion with the NAILPRO competition staff about designs will be held in strict confidence.

 

Criteria

JUDGE 1

Lateral Structure & Shape – 10 Points

  • the nail enhancements align perfectly with the sides of the natural nails

  • the arch of the nail enhancements is consistently placed

  • the shape is symmetrical and consistent individually and as a set

Finish Work – 10 Points

  • the entire surface of the nail enhancement is smooth

  • the entire surface of all nails are very shiny (absence of scratches)

  • the edges of the nails are smooth and finished the nails are thoroughly clean (absence of dust)

Theme – 5 Points

  • the design is executed well the overall entry is complete and needs no improvement

  • the theme was followed on all 10 nails; Failure to do will result in a 20pt deduction

Design – 10 Points

  • the design is complete and no improvement is needed

  • the design involves multiple techniques

  • the design has kept within the color range of the theme

JUDGE 2

Surface Structure & “C” curves – 10 Points

  • the top surfaces of the nail enhancements are smooth and perfectly contoured

  • the bottom surfaces of the nail enhancements are smooth and perfectly contoured

  • the curvature of the nail enhancements is symmetrical and consistent

  • the depth of curvature is a range between 40% and 50%

  • the percent of curvature enhances the model’s nails

Product Control & Cuticle Area – 10 Points

  • the product is completely free of air bubbles and pits

  • all products are completely controlled and the color of the product is consistent

  • the model’s skin is free from all products

  • the product is flush to the natural nails and close to the cuticles

  • the model’s skin at the cuticle area is in excellent condition (free from abrasions)

Complexity of Design – 5 Points

  • the design is challenging, demanding skill and effort

  • the design involves multiple techniques

  • the complexity of design is apparent

Detail – 5 Points

  • the detail of design is clean and precise

  • the design has adequate detail

  • the detail enhances the design

JUDGE 3

Length – 5 Points

  • the length, measured from cuticle to the end of the extension, is consistent between matching nails (pinkie to pinkie, etc.) and in proportion to each other

  • the required length has been followed and was measured to comply

Color – 10 Points

  • the colors enhance the design the colors complement each other

  • the colors are well thought out and placed

Balance of Design – 10 Points

  • the design is completely thought out

  • the design complements

  • the color various elements of the design are well-balanced, neither too sparse or too busy

Overall Impression – 10 Points

  • the nails complement the model’s hands

  • the thinness is suitable for competition-style nail enhancements (the thinness of a business card, approximately .01 to .03 inches, is ideal)

  • the overall entry is complete and needs no improvement

  • all competition rules were followed
